Welcome to a love letter, a monthly publication from artist, writer and yoga teacher Colby Mackenzie featuring stories of my loving practices and support for yours. Thanks for being here.
Hello loves!
March is one of the four transition months of the year. The others: June, September, December.
Each one marks a period of transition between seasons - the months of the equinoxes and solstices. Required to comply with the drumbeat of the universe, these seasons, these months, are the things we can rely on.
The first 3 weeks of these transition months feature the dying of the season prior, the making way.
We are typically restless.
We say, “Be gone winter! We are done with you! Come sun come spring!”
I would caution us all to be gracious and grateful for winter lest we forget the lessons of the good dark.
How can we respect and appreciate the time of transitions?
We practice!
Some options below:
attend a movement class like yoga or tai chi on or around the spring equinox, occurring on March 19th this year.
journal some thoughts and reactions to this newsletter (would love to see them in the comments below!)
observe and snap photos of the transition moments you notice, like bright spring flowers peeking through winter frost.
I am spending the transition hibernating to soak up the last juicy invitation of winter, recover from the past few hectics months, and enjoying some sort of ritual on the day of the equinox itself.
All love,
Colby
