Welcome to a love letter, a monthly publication from artist, writer and well-being teacher Colby Mackenzie featuring stories of my loving practices and support for yours. Thanks for being here.
Hello loves!
Happy New Year! 2025 hereeeee weeee goooO!!!
Raise your hand if you are feeling depleted!!
I see you. I’ve spent a long time feeling that way.
The only way out was to turn my focus inward. Onto myself. My recovery has been the most important way I have contributed to the greater good.
Because there is a lotttt going on.
Now, existing is a global endeavor. Mostly since the Internet, which was basically created yesterday in the time scale. Knowing everything or being able to find out anything all the time has led me to overwhelm, anxiety, a sort of paralysis. I want to do something, but I’m not sure what. Who. How.
The answer is to go hyper local. To treat ourselves first. It is the way forward to treating others.
I challenge you this year to invest in yourself. Really. It doesn’t have to be a crazy big goal or promise.
You could just move a little more. Paint. Write. Read. Get outside. Pet animals. Adopt. Dance. Make a new friend. Dump a toxic one. Take a break from something. Vote. Run for office. Clean your office. Create one. Get yourself new socks. Sing. GO TO THERAPY!
Only you know what works for you.
As always, I recommend The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron if you need some help wiping the mirror of the self to see what works for you.
I’m challenging myself to go booze-free, not buy any new things, and prioritize rebuilding my emergency/safety fund.
Also important around this time:
CELEBRATING all that we did the past 365 days.
Some of my highlights include:
The healthy delivery of my healthy niece, miss Eloise!!!!
Celebrating 10 years of partnership with my beloved in Greece and Croatia, two firsts for me.
Paying off roughly $37,000!!!!! in debt from my time between jobs.
Finishing the first draft of my forthcoming memoir on our nomad adventures (stay tuned!).
Got a new car!!!
What are some of yours? Taking 5 minutes to write things down is a really important way to acknowledge our efforts and all we do. Comment below if you want!
All love this year and all years,
Colby
This letter is dedicated to my love Molly for the inspo :)
